Walking is your Best Medicine

We all know that walking is good for us but did you know that it can actually have anti-aging effects and it can also help repair old DNA? If you walk regularly, from as little as 20 minutes a day, you could even add between 3 and 7 years to your life! The great thing is that it works, whatever age you start.

Studies have found that walking for two or more miles a day can reduce your chances of being hospitalised by an episode of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease by about half.

Others have found the daily walking could reduce your risk of stroke (in men) over the age of 60 by as much as 1/3 if you walk for an hour or two and it doesn’t matter how fast or slow you go. By walking for 3 hours a day, the risk is cut by 2/3.

Not only this though, walking triggers the release of your body’s good mood and pain killing endorphins and the more you walk, the better your mood will be.

It also helps you to sleep, improve joint health, circulation and could reduce your risk of breast and colon cancers.

Walking may also:

Reduce the risk of coronary heart disease

Improve blood pressure and blood sugar levels

Improve blood lipid profile

Maintain body weight and lower the risk of obesity

Enhance mental well being

Reduce your risk of osteoporosis

Reduce your risk of non-insulin dependent (type 2) diabetes.
